There is alot of hemorrhoid talk….?

Ok there are alot of references on here to hemerrhoids and how common they are during pregnancy. Help me out. What exactly is a hemorroid, what are the symptoms, at what point during pregnancy did you experienced them and what is the treatment? Thanks.
Fun things to look forward to!!!!

Do you know what piles are? Basically a hemorrhoid is a varicose vein that forms just outside or inside the rectum. They form because there’s more pressure on that area of your anatomy, but also more blood flow. Straining when you go to the loo can also make it worse or bring them on.

It happens for the exact reason you get varicose veins in your legs. People who sit or stand a lot tend to get them as well (whether they’re pregnant or not). It usually goes away by itself after the baby’s born.

You’ll feel “pressure” in that area, maybe a stinging sensation, itching and sometimes extreme, throbbing pain. You may also experience some bleeding when you go to the loo for a bowel movement. If you care to feel down there, it may feel like a grape or a bunch of grapes (if you have more than one) as hemorrhoids sometimes “cluster”.

Not everyone gets them though. I’m 33 weeks along and still don’t have anything that remotely resembles a hemorrhoid. I’ve had one before though, so I know what they feel like. If they’re uncomfortable (and big!!) the doctor will give you hemorrhoid creme which you can apply to the area.
