Quite often, people think that they may have hemorrhoids but are afraid that it may be something more serious.  There are two types of hemorrhoids – internal and external.  Internal and external hemorrhoids differ based on where they originate – inside the back passage, or around the edge of the entrance to the area.  This article is concentrating on internal hemorrhoids, as these are the most common.  So what are the main internal hemorrhoids symptoms?  These are five of the most common:

Small lumps – you may feel small lumps hanging out of your anus.  This is known as a prolapsed hemorrhoid and should not be confused with external hemorrhoids, as they still have their origin inside the anus as explained at the beginning of the article.

Bright red blood – sometimes on toilet paper or actually coating the outside of the stool.

Itchy anus – this can also be pretty painful and can make it difficult to sit comfortably.

Mucus discharge – you may often discharge a mucus whilst you are passing a stool.

Bowels feel full – you may feel like your bowels still need emptying, even if you have just been to the toilet.

You may have any or all of the above symptoms there if you have internal hemorrhoids.  If you have there is no need to worry – hemorrhoids are unpleasant and can be embarrassing but they aren’t serious.

I would like you to be aware of one note of caution though – if you are losing weight, if your bowel movements have changed recently, or if you see dark red blood mixed in with your stools you should contact your doctor.  This is just to rule out a more serious condition such as colon cancer (which is very unlikely but should be checked).
