Lansoprazle and Metoclopramide tablets. I have been prescribed these by my doctor. How safe are they to take?
I have just been prescribed the above tablets and I am already on a lot of other medication for my asthma, arthritis, migraines, skin problems, allergies etc. It was as the result of seeing a dietician for my high cholesterol, but she realised I had problems eating because of my sliding hiatus hernia which is causing me pain problems with food and lying down problems ( I have to sleep sitting up). The hiatus hernia has only just been diagnosed although I have had these problems the last 20 years.
I am worried about taking them because I am already on a lot of other medication. I have read the leaflets and am not wholly happy with the contraindications ( I know there are piles of contraindications on the other stuff I am taking, but I am not happy about adding more to the list).
I am sorely tempted to take them, they are sitting on my kitchen table. I prepared breakfast this morning and couldnt eat it cos of the pain after the first mouthful.
Any one got any advice for me?
Lansoprazole stops your stomach producing acid. It’s widely used, and in my experience the main adverse effect tends to be diarrhoea (change in the gut bacterial flora because the pH changes). It will stop your heartburn and make it easier to sleep lying down. The metoclopramide has the double effect of speeding up the emptying of your stomach, and also damping down feelings of nausea.
Both will help you I think.
Incidentally, you don’t take lots of ibuprofen or similar painkillers for your arthritis and headaches do you? They can make acid problems quite a bit worse.
However, I’m not sure what your medicines have to do with yoga and I’m certain your asthma inhalers didn’t cause your hernia.
