bowel movement hemorrhoids

I am 15 Weeks pregnant and have painful bowel movements?

Starting yesterday, I’ve had really painful bowel movements. Since yesterday I’ve seen a slight amount of blood when passing bowel movements. I know with the prenatal vitamins and all the calcium I’ve been eating, they’re a lot harder than normal… but I eat A LOT of fiber and I drink lots of water. Almost 1/2 of everything I eat has tons of fiber (I eat at least 150% of recommended daily allowance of fiber).

Do I have hemorrhoids? What do I do about this? Sorry about the TMI!

Pregnancy hormones can lead to constipation… and eating 150% of your daily recommended fiber can actually make it worse!

A slight amount of blood during a BM is usually related to hemorrhoids, which are also very common during pregnancy. The best suggestion I can make (from experience) is try to drink a lot of water, don’t overdo it on the fiber. Also, make sure that your fiber comes from “natural” sources like vegetables and fruit. Also, get some exercise daily, a nice walk helps to stimulate the bowels to contract.
