21-year-old male with bloody stool?
I know a 21-year-old male with a history of hemorrhoids. He has recently had some problems with bloody stools; he says that the blood has dripped when he has passed a stool, which is unusual for him. This has happened several times, but he says it only happens when he eats junk food (e.g. fast food, greasy stuff, etc.). He hasn’t had any pain associated with the bleeding, and he isn’t especially concerned.
He went to the doctor, and no hemorrhoids were found. He has to have a colonoscopy. I’m a rather pessimistic person who is very anxious, and I’m absolutely terrified that he has colorectal cancer. I was wondering if anyone has any similar experiences or if anyone can give me any hope? I really am worrying about this constantly, and it’s causing me to be physically ill. =( Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much! =)
Bloody (red) stools can be caused by many things. One of the most common is simply weak capillaries in the rectal tissues. Stress, poor diet, sitting a lot etc. can all be things which trigger the bloody stools.
It’s a good thing that he is going to get checked out, but don’t freak out until it’s really time to freak out. Colorectal cancer in a 21 year old male is very rare.
You said yourself that he has a history of inflamed hemorroidal tissue. He also has the symptoms most frequently after eating fast food. To me, this is one of those times when it’s best to take breath and wait for the results. Statistically, the chances of it being anything serious in a 21 year old male are very slim indeed.
